Blog: Ex Rwandan India envoy survives shooting

AFP reports Lieutenant General Kayumba Nyamwasa as having been shot at in a possible assassination attempt in Johannesburg, South Africa. Nyamwasa has been living in South Africa, since he escaped Rwanda after being sacked as High Commissioner to India, while on a trip home.

The report says he was shot outside his home, in his car and says Nyamwasa’s wife believes Rwandan President Paul Kagame to have been responsible for the hit.

Rwanda is to hold presidential elections in August.

Nyamwasa has earlier been indicted for genocide and crimes against humanity. Shot in the stomach, his condition is reported to be stable.
