Gorshkov trials delayed 5 months: Report

The first sea trials of the INS Vikramaditya, the erstwhile Russian carrier, Admiral Gorshkov, have been postponed by five months. Russian website RUSNAVY.com reports that the sortie, which was earlier scheduled for the end of this year, is now being planned for May 2012.

Navy’s P-8I takes off

The Indian Navy’s first P-8I, Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft took off on its first flight on Wednesday from Renton field in the US State of Washington, taking off at 1202 hours and landing two hours and 31 minutes later, at Boeing field in Seattle.

Naval LCA starts its engine

The naval LCA is still not ideally suitable for carrier-based operations, with the current GE-F404 engine slightly underpowered. This will change with the development of the naval version of the LCA Mk II, which will be powered by the GE-F414 engine.

Coast Guard aims for ambitious expansion

Defense Minister Arackaparambil Kurian Antony: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) will be one of the biggest in this sector in the world by 2018. ICG assets have increased by 50 percent and the number of stations will go up from 22 to 42. Indian shipyards are building 156 vessels for the ICG and 12 Dornier aircraft will be inducted within two years.
