New Delhi: The defense ministry has objected to a gas project in the Krishna-Godavari basin of Andhra Pradesh, as it comes under a missile test range, Defense Minister Arackaparambil Kurian Antony told the Lok Sabha (Indian Lower House of Parliament) Monday.
In a written reply, Antony said the proposal of the petroleum and natural gas ministry to identify oil and gas exploration under the new exploration licensing policy-9 would interfere with the proposed long-range missile launching facilities in Andhra Pradesh.
“The defense ministry has objected to the gas project of Andhra Pradesh in the Krishna-Godavari basin as the same comes under the missile test range,” he said in his reply.
The Andhra Pradesh government was yet to send a proposal for alternative place for setting up the missile test range, he said, noting that the issue was still under the discussion with the petroleum and natural gas ministry.
