The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs concluded a five-day law enforcement exchange on Friday, which focused on interview and interrogation techniques.
FBI subject matter experts were brought to India to discuss best practices on this topic, and shared their expertise with exchange participants, according to a statement issued by the US Embassy in New Delhi.
“Forty-one senior officers from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD), National Investigation Agency (NIA), and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and officers from state agencies across India participated in the exchange,” said the statement.
The embassy said the techniques and methodology discussed in the exchange involved a rapport-based approach. “Skills developed include active listening, cognitive interview techniques, detection of deception, elements of a lawful interrogation and identification of false confessions,” it said.
