Hensoldt has introduced MDOcore, a new software suite designed to support multi-domain operations by enabling integration between sensor and effector systems across different military platforms. The company announced the launch in Taufkirchen, Germany, describing the system as a digital foundation for software-defined defence solutions.
Described as acting as a “universal translator,” MDOcore is intended to enable communication among different systems, such as radars, air defence units and weapon delivery systems from multiple countries. Its open, modular architecture is designed to remain compatible with reference standards used in current defence programmes.
The user interface allows interaction through voice or text commands and is designed to provide detailed, context-specific information. The software suite is also prepared for integration with future technologies, including cloud-based systems, swarm operations and quantum computing.
According to Hensoldt, MDOcore enables end-to-end, cross-domain data exchange intended to reduce the time between reconnaissance and operational effect. The company says the system supports real-time fusion and analysis of information gathered from various sensors and platforms.
Hensoldt CEO Oliver Dörre said, “Data is as important as ammunition on the battlefield. With MDOcore, we are creating a key capability for networked data fusion and analysis – independent of non-European platforms. In this way, we are securing sovereignty over our own mission data and making a decisive contribution to technological sovereignty.”
The company stated that the software was developed using insights from recent operational experience and follows a software-centred defence approach. MDOcore can update or modify software modules during operation, including rapid updates in response to newly identified threats. A functional prototype that includes multi-domain data fusion and AI-supported evaluation has been tested.
Sven Heursch, Head of Software-Defined Defence & Digitalisation at Hensoldt, said, “MDOcore is more than a software suite – it is the foundation of a new way of thinking in defence technology. By decoupling hardware, software, data and algorithms, we are creating a modular architecture that is interoperable, scalable and future-proof.”
