The Chief of Air Staff of the Indian Air Force (IAF) Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha flew the Gripen fighter aircraft at Saab’s facility at Linköping in Sweden, on Thursday.

He flew the Gripen D aircraft with Wing Commander (Flying) Michael Lundquist.

He is on a five-day tour of Sweden as part of discussions on cooperation in aerospace and defence between the two countries agreed between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven during the Make in India summit in Mumbai last February.

Sweden and Saab have offered the Gripen for production under Prime Minster Modi’s Make in India program.

Maharashtra Chief Minster Devendra fadnavis had visited Saab’s facilities in Sweden in April last year.

Indian President Pranab Mukherjee also paid a five-day visit to Sweden in June 2015.
