India, France to hold joint army drill

French Defense Minister Gérard Longuet announced that the French and Indian armies would be holding a joint exercise, Shakti.

Longuet made the announcement at a press conference held at the French Embassy in New Delhi on Friday. The two countries already hold air and naval exercises called Garuda and Varuna, respectively.

Indian Army sources have told StratPost that Shakti is to be a Counter Insurgency & Counter Terrorism exercise, which will be held in August.

Both sides are to begin planning the exercise, shortly.
