New Delhi: The total value of military contracts between India and the US signed between 2004 and 2011 totals INR 37,181 crore (USD 8.2 billion), the Rajya Sabha (Indian Upper House of Parliament) was informed Wednesday.
Defense Minister Arackaparambil Kurian Antony said in a statement that defense items were procured from various indigenous as well as foreign sources including the US.
“This is a continuous process undertaken for the modernization of the armed forces to keep them in a state of readiness to meet any eventuality,” he said.
He said contracts had been signed for purchase of various equipment including C-130J aircraft, Boeing Business Jets for VVIP transportation, Harpoon Missiles, Sensor Fused Weapons, C-17 Globemaster III and the INS Jalashwa.
