Indian Navy to handover FAC Topaz to Seychelles

The Indian Navy will be handling over the Fast Attack Craft (FAC) Topaz to Seychelles on Thursday. The Topaz is being escorted by an Indian Offshore Patrol Vessel to the island nation.

Formerly the Indian Naval Ship Tarmugli, the vessel was commissioned in 2002, after being built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders. It was given to the Seychelles as a goodwill gesture in 2005 and was recently undergoing a three month refit.

While an Indian vessel has already been patrolling the seas in the region, especially against piracy, the escort vessel of the Topaz is likely to stay on as well for patrolling duties against piracy, in what one naval source has called ‘the spirit of naval diplomacy and the Charter of IONS (Indian Ocean Naval Symposium)’.
