Lankan navy chief in India

Vice Admiral TSG Samarasinghe, Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy is in India on a week-long visit. He met the Indian Navy chief Admiral Nirmal Verma as well as the Indian Army chief General Vijay Kumar Singh.

A statement issued by the Indian Ministry of Defense said, “The visit of the Commander of Sri Lanka Navy is aimed at enhancing the existing cooperation in the field of Defense, with particular focus on Navy-to-Navy Cooperation.”

The ministry said a briefing for Samarasinghe was held at the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defense. “Bilateral cooperation between the two navies is presently at an all time high as Sri Lanka holds an important position in India’s strategic perception,” said the ministry. The Admiral Samarasinghe is also scheduled to meet officials of the Ministry of External Affairs and will visit the Eastern and Southern Naval Commands at Visakhapatnam and Kochi.

Samarasinghe will also attend the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the National Defense College in New Delhi, of which he is an alumnus.
