German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall announced on Monday an order worth over €770 million from the German armed forces for over a 1,300 military trucks.

The company said in a statement, the ‘Bundeswehr has commissioned Rheinmetall to supply more than 1,000 logistic vehicles with a total value of around € 770m gross.’

The statement quoted Chairman of the Board of Rheinmetall MAN military Vehicles GmbH (RMMV), André Barthel, as saying, “As a reliable partner of the Bundeswehr, we are delighted to be delivering additional vehicles and this contributing to the mobility and operational readiness of the armed forces.”

The order follows from a ‘framework agreement signed in July 2024,’ which Rheinmetall said was the largest order for logistics vehicles in its history, ‘for the delivery of up to 6,500 vehicles with a gross value of up to €3.5bn.’ The framework agreement offers flexibility to the Bundeswehr in the kinds of vehicles it orders.

The new order is for ‘963 vehicles with swap-body systems, some with protected driver cabins, as well as swap-body flatbeds and tarpaulin-arch superstructures,’ as well as ‘425 Unprotected Transport Vehicles (UTV) ‘available in 4×4 and 8×8 versions.’

The 5t and 15t models of UTVs are already in service in the Bundeswehr. The new order also includes a new 3.5t 4×4 model of the UTV, ‘which has a maximum number of common parts with the UTV family.’ The UTV models and swap-body systems are based on RMMV’s HX vehicle family of which around 7,000 have been delivered to the Bundeswehr since 2017.

The company said in its statement that ‘more than 20,000 (HX) vehicles are already in use worldwide,’ and the latest order will be delivered ‘before the end of the year.’
