MQ-9B Completes First AEW Test Flight

Saab and General Atomics Aeronautical Systems have completed the first flight of an MQ-9B unmanned aircraft fitted with LoyalEye airborne early warning radar pods. The trial marks the beginning of a test programme leading to a full capability demonstration later this year.

Fraunhofer Develops Acoustic Drone-Detection System

Fraunhofer IDMT has developed an acoustic drone-detection system capable of identifying and locating unmanned aerial vehicles even when they are obscured by terrain or structures. Designed to integrate with radar, optical and lidar sensors, the system provides 360-degree coverage with low energy consumption and autonomous operation.

Germany Orders 20 New Eurofighters

Germany has ordered 20 new Eurofighter aircraft from Airbus to strengthen its Air Force capabilities. The fighters will feature upgraded radar and electronic warfare systems and will be delivered between 2031 and 2034 as part of Europe’s joint defence programme. The new aircraft will serve as a technological bridge to the Future Combat Air System, which is expected to enter service from 2040.

Raytheon’s offering at Aero India

US defense systems manufacturer Raytheon plans to exhibit a wide range of products and programs in the areas of Intelligence, Surveillance And Reconnaissance (ISR), Command, Control And Communications (C3), integrated air & missile defense, missile systems, radar and homeland security (including coastal/maritime security), at Aero India 2011 in Bangalore next week.
