Top defence procurement office falls vacant

One of the top offices for handling procurement for the armed forces, that of Director General (Acquisitions), is set to fall vacant on at the beginning of next week, when the current incumbent, Smita Nagaraj, demits office.

Nagaraj is moving to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), where she will join her new position at the beginning of next month. She was empaneled as secretary-equivalent earlier this year and is expected to retire in 2018.

Although no replacement has been appointed to the office yet, it is understood that Defence Secretary Sanjay Mitra will take on the additional charge of DG (Acquisitions).
