ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) has handed over the second HDW Class NTSP submarine, TCG Hızırreis, to the Turkish Navy during a ceremony at Gölcük on 27 November 2025. The vessel is the second of six submarines being delivered under the programme, following the handover of the first boat in October 2024. The class of submarines is also known as the Reis-class of submarines, a version of the Type 214 submarines.

The Gölcük Naval Shipyard transferred the submarine to Turkey’s defence procurement authority, SSB (Savunma Sanayii Başkanlığı), which then handed it over to the Navy. Representatives from SSB, GNSY, the Turkish Navy and TKMS were present for the signing and transfer.

Christian Rogge, EVP Submarines at TKMS, said, “All parties involved have shown a high level of commitment and willingness to cooperate since the start of the project – this is the only way to realize projects of this scope within the set time and cost framework. The handover now underscores the good partnership between TKMS, GNSY, and the Turkish Navy.”

TKMS is responsible for the submarine’s design, material supply, and supervision of construction and testing, after which an 18-month warranty period will follow.

Project manager Bernd Krekeler said, “I would like to express my sincere thanks to the entire team for reaching this milestone – especially the project teams in Kiel and Gölcük… The handover of the second boat is a strong sign of this.”

Work on the remaining four submarines is ongoing, with delivery of the third vessel expected in about one year.
