New Delhi/Lucknow: A Jaguar combat aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed in Uttar Pradesh Thursday, killing the pilot and a civilian on the ground, officials said.
The single-seat aircraft crashed into the fields of Firozpur Dhilai village in Madhuban town of Mau district, some 250 km from Lucknow.
The accident happened at around 12:15 p.m., an officer from the Central Air Command told IANS.
The pilot was identified as Flight Lieutenant S. Pandey while the victim on the ground, a girl, was identified as Rooma.
“The aircraft was on a training exercise and crashed into the fields,” Deputy Inspector General, Azamgarh Range L. Ravikumar told IANS on telephone.
The IAF has ordered a court of inquiry into the crash.
