DefExpo22: LMT’s India-made fighter wing on show
Also featured will be the F-21 fighter, S-76D naval helicopter & Javelin ATGM

U.S. defence company Lockheed Martin will be displaying its ‘Made in India”, fuel-carrying, 9G, 12,000 hour, interchangeable / replaceable fighter wing’ at DefExpo 2022.

The wing is built at the Tata Lockheed Martin Aerostructures Limited (TLMAL) facility in Hyderabad, which is also the ‘single global source of C-130J empennage assemblies installed on all new Super Hercules aircraft’, with 150 delivered, according to Lockheed Martin.

“Participating at DEFEXPO 2022 gives us the opportunity to showcase our advanced technologies directly to the largest gathering of defence and aerospace partners and our customers in India,” said Vice President and Chief Executive of Lockheed Martin India, William Blair, adding, “Our joint ventures with Tata are a testament to the success of Indian government’s mission to create an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ in defence”.

Featured in addition will be the F-21 fighter, on offer to the Indian Air Force (IAF), for which the company says it is ‘leveraging both 4th and 5th generation technologies to offer the best solution to meet or exceed the IAF’s capability needs, provide Make in India industrial opportunities, and accelerate India-U.S. cooperation on advanced technologies’.

Next, two aircraft already in service in India — the C-130J Super Hercules tactical airlifter and the MH-60R maritime helicopter will be highlighted at the company exhibit.

Calling the MH-60R ‘the world’s most advanced maritime helicopter’, the company pointed out that ‘The US Navy has already delivered the first three aircraft to the Indian Navy in 2021’. “Three additional aircraft will be delivered in 2022 and these aircraft will be deployed to the Indian Navy to start the initial stand-up of the first Multi-Role Helicopter squadron. A total of 24 MH-60Rs will be delivered in country over the next few years,” said Lockheed Martin.

Another helicopter — the S-76D, for which Lockheed Martin and Tata Advanced Systems Limited have teamed up to offer the Indian Navy for its Naval Utility Helicopter (NUH) program, will be part of the company’s exhibits at the show, as well.

And finally, the Javelin Anti Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) ‘one-man-portable and platform-employed multi-target precision weapon system’ will also displayed be at the show.
