MBDA has signed an agreement with the Indian Air Force to develop a local Maintenance, Repair and Mid-Life Overhaul (MRO) capability for MICA missiles in India, according to a company statement issued on May 6.

Under the agreement, the MRO facility will be set up, operated and maintained by the Indian Air Force. MBDA will provide industrial machinery, tools, data packages, training and technical support for the project.

The facility is intended to support MICA missiles used by the Indian Armed Forces during their service life. According to MBDA, the facility is expected to improve turnaround times for missile maintenance and support operational readiness.

The company said the project reflects India’s efforts to expand domestic defence sustainment and technical capabilities.

MBDA said it has supplied missile systems to the Indian Air Force for more than 50 years and continues to support multiple aircraft platforms in service with the force.

In the statement, MBDA said, ‘The MRO facility will be set up, operated and maintained by the Indian Air Force, with MBDA supplying the industrial machinery and tools required, data packages, as well as training and technical support.’

The company added, ‘This facility will help India’s domestic defense sustainment effort, improving turnaround times, with capacity to support MICA missiles throughout the duration of their time in service, significantly enhancing the operational capability and readiness of the Indian Armed Forces.’
