The U.S. Pentagon has announced agreements with eight technology companies to deploy artificial intelligence capabilities across its classified networks. The companies include SpaceX, OpenAI, Google, NVIDIA, Reflection, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, and Oracle.
According to the department, the agreements will allow these firms to deploy AI tools within Impact Level 6 (IL6) and Impact Level 7 (IL7) classified environments. These systems are used for sensitive and highly classified operations. The integration is intended to support operational, intelligence, and enterprise functions across the military.
The U.S. Pentagon said in a statement, ‘The War Department has entered into agreements with eight of the world’s leading frontier artificial intelligence companies, SpaceX, OpenAI, Google, NVIDIA, Reflection, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, and Oracle to deploy their advanced AI capabilities on the Department’s classified networks for lawful operational use.’
The department said the integration will support data processing and decision-making in operational settings. It added, ‘Integrating secure frontier AI capabilities into the Department’s Impact Level 6 (IL6) and Impact Level 7 (IL7) network environments will streamline data synthesis, elevate situational understanding, and augment warfighter decision-making in complex operational environments.’
The initiative is part of a broader effort to expand AI use across the military. The department reported that its AI platform, GenAI.mil, has been used by more than 1.3 million personnel, generating millions of prompts and deploying a large number of automated systems within five months.
The U.S. Pentagon stated, ‘GenAI.mil, the War Department’s official AI platform, is already demonstrating the scale and impact of this acceleration.’
Officials also said the system architecture will be designed to avoid dependence on a single supplier and to allow integration of multiple technologies. The department said it will continue developing AI capabilities to support military operations, intelligence, and administrative functions across the force.
