The first batch of Indian Air Force (IAF) Boeing CH-47F Chinook helicopters arrived in India today.

Four of the fifteen CH-47F(I) heavy lift helicopters arrived at Mundra Port on Sunday, according to a statement issued by Boeing. The helicopters will be ferried to Chandigarh where they will be inducted and finally based. The aircraft will be operated by the 126 Helicopter Flight of the IAF, which has been operating the Russian Mi-26 heavy lift helicopter.

Earlier this month, Boeing held the transfer ceremony at its Philadelphia facility where the newly-arrived Indian Ambassador to the U.S. Harsh Shringla accepted the aircraft, which is part of a USD 3 billion order that also includes 22 AH-64E Apache attack helicopters. The IAF has an option for an additional seven CH-47F aircraft. The order was placed in 2015.
