Airbus Defence and Space said it will open a new A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) conversion centre at its San Pablo facility in Seville, Spain, by the end of 2027 as demand for military tanker aircraft increases.

The company said the new centre will work alongside its existing conversion facility in Getafe, Madrid. With the additional site, Airbus plans to increase annual aircraft conversions from five to seven A330 MRTTs.

The Seville facility will also carry out Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) activities and upgrades for A330 MRTT aircraft already in service.

Airbus said the San Pablo site was selected because of its existing aerospace infrastructure and industrial base linked to the A400M and C295 aircraft production programmes. The location also provides logistical links with the Getafe facility.

As part of the project, Airbus will modernise infrastructure at San Pablo and introduce equipment and technologies required for military aircraft conversion work. The investment will include upgrades to industrial assets in hangars, implementation of manufacturing processes and workforce training programmes.

The Getafe facility will continue as the coordinating centre supporting both sites as Airbus expands MRTT conversion capacity to address market demand.
