Rostec has begun flight testing of an import-substituted version of the Ka-226T light multi-purpose helicopter fitted with the Russian-made VK-650V engine developed by United Engine Corporation.
According to Rostec, the first test flight lasted 20 minutes and included taxiing, hovering, and maneuvering. Engineers checked the helicopter’s stability, controllability, and system loads during the flight. The company said the engine and onboard systems operated normally.
Vladimir Artyakov, First Deputy Director General of Rostec, said, “Rostec State Corporation is consistently implementing the import substitution program in the aviation industry. The next step is the creation of a fully domestic version of the Ka-226T helicopter. Now the machine is equipped with a Russian ‘heart’ – a modern VK-650V engine. During the flight, which lasted 20 minutes, the power plant worked normally, showing a reliable interface with all helicopter systems.”
Gennady Abramenkov, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, said, “A fully domestic machine guarantees technological independence and opens up new prospects for sanitary, rescue, and patrol aviation.”
The Ka-226T uses a coaxial rotor design and modular cabin system for passenger, cargo, rescue, medical, and patrol missions. The VK-650V is the first certified domestic engine in Russia for light helicopters up to four tons.
