Russia’s state arms exporter Rosoboronexport has begun an international marketing campaign for the Garpia-A1E, a new long-range loitering munition developed and manufactured by Almaz-Antey Air and Space Defence Corporation.

Rosoboronexport said the system is designed to attack fixed targets at specified coordinates and is being offered to foreign customers. The company also said it is open to negotiations on local production in countries that maintain defence ties with Russia.

“Today, the Garpia-A1E is the only loitering munition on the global market with a range of up to 1,000 km. It can carry a warhead weighing over 50 kg and its CEP does not exceed 4 meters,” – said Alexander Mikheev, Director General of ROSOBORONEXPORT and Deputy Chairman of the Union of Machine Builders of Russia (Soyuzmash of Russia). – “Thanks to its performance characteristics that are unique for the market and the excellent results demonstrated during actual tactical employment, the export version of the UAV has already attracted interest from foreign customers and has been presented to a number of partners. ROSOBORONEXPORT is open to negotiations regarding the supply of the Garpia-A1E system and the localization of its production in countries friendly to Russia.”

The BLA-D munition uses a flying-wing configuration with a pusher propeller and is powered by a gasoline engine. Rosoboronexport gives its maximum speed as at least 170 km/h, range as at least 1,000 km and endurance as at least six hours. Its stated takeoff weight is 250 kg.

“When conducting contract and supply work regarding Russian military products, ROSOBORONEXPORT primarily considers the need for the manufacturer to fulfill its obligations to the Russian Ministry of Defence. Currently, Almaz-Antey has mastered the series production of the Garpia-A1E system and reached a level that enables it to fulfill contracts with foreign customers within competitive timeframes without compromising the country’s defence capability,” – added Alexander Mikheev.
